Roamed far and wide on one of the Park's mobility scooters, taking in impressive sculptures.

Transport & Parking

We drove and parked in one of the plentiful blue badge spaces outside the visitor centre. Only possible drawback was having to pay - blue badge holders have to pay too. No objection to paying but a disabled visitor on their own would need to get to and use the paystation.

Access

The paths marked as suitable for wheelchairs and mobility scooters restrict you a little. As I was on quite a robust scooter, I used some of the "rougher" paths which were just fine - though quite bumpy! So I went a little further than most but there were a few places I couldn't get to (eg narrow gate to access bridge over river). The best thing was the free mobility scooter hire (just ring in advance to reserve one). It was a good model, easy to drive - just brilliant.

Toilets

Accessible loos in visitor centre and at entrance to country park. Possibly at other points too but I didn't see them. One in visitor centre was spacious, well equipped, clean. Apparently the country park one is radar key entry (the visitor centre one is not).

Staff

I was instructed how to use the scooter by a really helpful young lady. She said if I needed to go upstairs, to let them know so they could get me a wheelchair as the lifts couldn't accommodate the scooter. Later on when I needed to dismount to visit the loo, another staff member came over to let me know I could swivel the seat. Really helpful.
