Welcome to a new year of fantastic Euan’s Guide reviews which we are very excited to share with everyone, and we would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has submitted reviews this month. Some people who haven’t reviewed for a while have begun again, and some people are reviewing for the first time. We are very pleased to hear from everyone, and we appreciate you sharing your experiences with us.

Places to eat

One of the first reviews this month comes from ClodaghC who reviewed American style restaurant TribeCa in Ranlagh Dublin. The restaurant received an overall review of 4.5 stars, and had a good rating of 4.5 for access. TriBeCa Resaurant The reviewer commented that there were “slightly heavy doors on entry, but all completely flat with low tables and enough space for a wheelchair to manoeuvre”. The review also includes a picture of the accessible toilet.

Staying with the theme of places to eat, Jane sent another five-star review of the Harbour Spring Pub and Restaurant in Peterhead, Aberdeen when she went there for Christmas Day lunch with family. Jane particularly mentions that staff were able to help accommodate her dietary requirements during the meal. Harbour Spring Resaurant

“Our daughter had booked Christmas Day lunch here. Access to the restaurant was good from the car park that has a number of blue badge spaces right by the entrance. As I have a number of allergies caused by medication, they were able to arrange for me to have the tomato soup that was on the children’s menu just a larger bowl.” It’s always helpful to know that restaurants can cater for different dietary requirements as well as different access needs.

Places to visit

Many other reviewers have been out and about visiting different venues this month. Shona Griffin had had her first review by reflecting on a trip to a library from 2018. York Explore Library and Archive

“I recommend the library as it accessible and has may useful amenities. Particularly the designated changing room for people with disabilities, I have rarely come across these and believe once it is complete it will be extremely helpful and appreciated.” Shonahighlights in a review that there are different formats of books available for people with different needs, including audiobooks, and dyslexia-friendly books. She has also shared some fantastic photographs which clearly show the layout and the access to York Explore Library and Archive.

Tina Hodgkinson has been on her travels to The Park Theatre in London. Tina highlights in her review that there are many different ways to get to the theatre via public transport, including by train or by bus. The Park Theatre London Tina also refers to the fact that the theatre provides different types of performances for people with different access requirements. “The theatre is very accessible offering captioned and audio described, relaxed and dementia-friendly performances. Really enjoyed my visit and will be back. Well worth visiting.” Tina has also included a good range of photos to show the layout and access to the venue, which is always helpful for people who are interested in a review.

Concert and sport venues

This month we’ve had reviews of some of the big concert and sporting venues around the UK. Firstly, we had a very positive review of the OVO Arena Wembley from Trainman1958, which was given four stars and sounds like a very successful and accessible experience for anyone attending a concert. “The wheelchair area in my block was on the side and had nice seating for carers . It blended in with the other seating so you didn’t feel segregated.”

We also received a review of BT Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh from DerekinPerth. This was a three-star review, but gives some good feedback to the venue on how they can improve disabled seating and access to accessible parking spaces around the time of the rugby games. It is always useful to give feedback to the venue within your review so that they can see what has gone well and what could be done better.

Review of the month

This month we would like to award review of the month to ClladaghC Who has written a fantastic review of TriBeCa restaurant in Dublin. This is a great review as it has. I really catchy title. “food with an American twist in Ranelagh” The review also has information in each part of the review form. The different sections of the review form cover different aspects of the visit. For example, talking about transport and parking accessibility and the accessibility of the toilets. The review also includes a photograph inside the accessible toilet, showing the layout and size of the toilet for anyone who wants more information about the venue.   Information is really useful in a review for anyone who has never visited the venue before so by adding as much information as you can and any photographs you are really helping someone reading your review take the first step towards visiting it.
