Overview
We chose to have a holiday in this cottage because of the previous Reviews, and the amount of detailed information on the Cottage website. We were not disappointed. Absolutely everything about it was as good (or better) than anything we had heard or read. The M1/M2 Grading was accurate and fair. As a part-time wheelchair user I could easily get around the cottage and the garden and access all of its amenities. The only place I couldn't easily go in my wheelchair was roughly 100 metres down the lane to the village, because the surface was mostly deep gravel and shingle. There's nothing the cottage owner can do about that. However, 2 cars can easily be parked in front of the cottage, so getting out and about by car wasn't a problem. The amount of equipment (and the excellent condition of it) provided for disabled people, and for babies, and for families was extra-ordinary. We have never found any holiday home that provided so much. NB The manual wheelchair is an attendant propelled one, not a self-propelling one, and it's a small to medium size. Although ideal perhaps for an elderly person just wanting to use it to visit local tourist attractions, I would advise more active wheelchair users to bring their own. Going back to the subject of equipment, even our little dog had his own cupboard containing doggie treats, towels, stainless steel bowls, a ground spike, a spare lead, poo bags. etc. He loved exploring the secure garden and being able to run around the cottage and go in and out of everywhere. He also had his own magazine, ''written'' by other dogs, telling him where the best beaches were, and all about the dog-friendly Country Houses and other places to visit. The weather was horrendous during our stay, so we really appreciated having the underfloor heating and the log-burning stove, plus more than enough reading matter and other informative resources about local tourist attractions. I think we would need at least a month to explore everything on offer. Well I think everyone before us has already said it – great bungalow, beautifully presented, fresh flowers in the windows, a superb “welcome pack'' of homemade goodies plus wine, chocolates, fruit and other sweets. It was really lovely to come into a holiday cottage that was exceptionally clean and bright and fully equipped. We will certainly be back. Meanwhile we will spread the message that this is an ideal home for everyone with disabilities – and it really is a place where you can bring yourself and your clothes – because everything you might need is already here. The owner, Kathryn, lives nearby and she is an ideal hostess. Nothing is too much trouble for her, and her attention to detail is phenomenal.
Transport & Parking
Parking for 2 cars on the driveway, perhaps at an odd angle, behind sliding metal gates. No parking on the lane immediately outside the cottage, but there is a communal parking area further down the lane. Access from this communal area to the cottage is across a lot of gravel and shingle, so not impossible but not easy for wheelchair users. Cottage is on the edge of a pleasant village that is fairly easy to get around, and the village is on a bus route to Cromer and other towns.
Access
M1 & M2 Grading was accurate and fair. Access inside the cottage is pretty good for a wheelchair user, although some bedrooms are more accessible than others. The owner will give good advice beforehand, and will do everything possible to adapt things in order to meet your needs during your stay.
Toilets
The loo in the main bathroom is easily accessible for a wheelchair user. Two other loos in the property are not wheelchair accessible, but are fine for anyone not in a wheelchair. Grab rails are in place. Toilet frames and raised toilet seats are available. Just let the owner know what you need and she will set it up to suit you.
Staff
Amazing! The owner and her staff can be very proud of this cottage. They were very willing to move furniture around, change position of beds, etc to meet our needs. Attended to any repairs as soon as we reported them. The welcome pack of goodies is the best we've ever seen or tasted. The cottage is full of all sorts of things that people would probably have in their own home, but not expect to find in a holiday cottage. This cottage is exceptionally clean and well-presented, with good quality furnishings, towels, bedding, etc. Attention to detail is excellent, as is the owner's thoughtfulness and kindness.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
We'll definitely return, and would be happy to come in winter too as the underfloor heating and the log-burning fire made the whole cottage warm and cosy. We'll just bring our clothes and my wheelchair next time, leaving a load of our gadgets and other equipment back home. If asked, 'What made it special?' we would say it was the owner, Kathryn, with her insight and understanding of people's needs and her desire to make things easy for her guests.
