Spectacular Event with Accessibility for Everyone

This visit included a person who uses: Mobility Scooter
This event is a must see for visitors to Edinburgh but also for residents. It is suitable for anyone but especially for those with mobility issues and those in Wheelchairs and Mobility Scooters. There are ramps and special places set aside for wheelchair and scooter users which give amazing views of this stunning show. There are also adjacent seats for a person accompanying. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There are also disabled toilets which are roomy and easily accessible. The access to the Castle Esplanade is on an incline so can need a strong effort to push a wheelchair up. Cars can only drop off on the hill leading up to the Castle so parking can be quite a way from the event. This is the only slight downside but doesn't detract from the experience of this amazing event. Worth every extra effort. Another upside is that if you contact the booking office directly you can get one ticket with a free ticket for the carer with you. Works out as 2 for 1 so cost can be shared. This concession can only be done through the actual Tattoo Office and not through ticket sites. A definite must if you are in Edinburgh. Not to be missed!!! As it is high up it can be windy and chilly even on a warm day so always wrap up well and be prepared for inclement weather BUT it is still a wonderful spectacle.
Transport & Parking
There is no specific disabled parking. People have to be dropped off on the hill leading up to the Castle Esplanade. Parking is available on Johnston Terrace and in the car park at the foot of that street.
There are no steps to negotiate to get to the area set aside for wheelchairs and mobility scooters. There are ramps at the rear of each stand leading to the disabled seating areas. For people with disabilities other than mobility ones, there are steps to the seating areas.
There are disabled toilets accessible at the rear of each stand. They are very roomy and can accommodate Wheelchairs and mobility scooters with plenty of room for carers. They were clean and well looked after when I was there.
The staff I spoke to were very helpful and offered physical help to get me up to the area for mobility scooters. They came and asked if we needed any other help twice during the performance.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Highly recommend this amazing spectacular for everyone. It would be a once in a lifetime experience for anyone visiting the city from the heart-stirring sounds of the Massed Pipes and Drums to the many and varied performances from around the world. Very moving and atmospheric listening to the lone piper from the ramparts. Light show on the frontage of the Castle and the Fireworks at the end all add to this must-see event
