Venue Description

Welcoming over 70,000 people through our doors every year, Shoreditch Town Hall is a leading independent cultural, live events and community space housed in one of the grandest former civic buildings in the capital. Comprising over 48,000 square feet across 70 individual rooms, the Grade II listed Town Hall is the largest multi-artform venue in Hackney and more in use than at any other point in its recent history. With 8 main spaces from 40 to 800 capacity, we present a year-round cultural programme of bold and innovative new theatre, music, dance, circus, comedy and talks, as well as host 200 live event hires every year. Our artist development programme supports 50 artists, and commissions up to 8 new pieces of live performance a year, and we collaborate with a range of local partners to deliver an extensive community and engagement programme.

Accessibility

Shoreditch Town Hall is committed to providing a welcoming environment, working to positively improve the experience for our disabled visitors as much as possible within the limitations of our Grade II listed building. Following the completion of capital works to improve the building, we can now offer visitors a passenger lift providing step-free access to the basement (The Ditch), ground and first floors alongside our existing provision of a platform lift from the street to the main foyer. The Assembly Hall balcony on the second floor, however, is only accessible via 66 steps with one rest area. We welcome assistance dogs; have gender-neutral, accessible toilets with baby changing facilities; and a nearby loading bay which allows up to 3 hours parking for blue badge holders. We are making more events accessible to a wider audience, where possible, through a range of assisted formats: British Sign Language Interpretation, Audio Description, Captioning and pre-event Touch Tours. We always endeavor to position wheelchair users as close to the action as possible, ensuring the best sightlines are achieved. We aim to introduce more Relaxed Performances, suitable particularly for people with autistic spectrum conditions, sensory and communication disorders and learning disabilities. We aim to provide access upon request to our visitors who require an accessible provision to be put in place for them to attend a performance, subject to the request being made at least 48 hours before the event. If you have specific access requirements, please ring Reception on 020 7739 6176 or email marketing@shoreditchtownhall.com before making your booking. Our team are here to ensure that your visit is as easy and enjoyable as possible and will be happy to discuss any requirements you may have.
