Great Museum With interesting exhibitions

Visit date:

This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Powerchair

Overview

This is a fantastic museum with lots to see and it has great accessibility too. It tells you a lot about the history of Lincolnshire and shows you a lot of the archaeological finds found in the county. There is a nice cafe here as well which serves good food. There are interesting exhibitions which are held here often.

Transport & Parking

There is a Pay and display car park right outside the museum with 4 disabled parking spaces. The last time I went here the disabled spaces were all taken up so I had to park in a normal space. It would be useful if there were some more spaces.

Access

5

The entrance to the museum is on the level and has automatic doors. The inside is all level access with a ramp going down to the exhibition area. The cafe and disabled toilet is downstairs and there is a lift that will take you down there. There is plenty of room to drive around in my powerchair. There is another disabled toilet in the orientation hall. The labels for all temporary exhibitions are available in large print format on request. There is a hearing loop in the reception area of the museum. Wheelchairs are available to use in the reception area if you need them. Assistance dogs are welcome.

Toilets

There are 2 disabled toilets. One accessible toilet is downstairs and can be accessed by the lift. There was a decent amount of room inside for my carer and I. Probably not enough for me to turn around but it was manageable. The 2nd disabled toilet is in the orientation hall of the museum.

Staff

The staff are always friendly and happy to talk. There's always someone around in exhibitions to ask questions if you want to. I have no complaints about them.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

This is a very nice museum with great access. It's well worth a visit if you are in Lincoln and you are interested in history and archaeology. Plus the cafe's great to have a bite to eat.
