Overview

This is a great site for anyone interested in industrial architecture, canals and waterways, history, and views. It has a lovely cafe which includes a small shop. Lovely play area for children on the lower level. It's lovely to sit and watch the lift in operation. The boat trips are supposed to be accessible, but we didn't test that out today. The boat trips are not free, but from past experience well worth doing. Lots of nice planting around the site. A real effort has been made to make the most of it. Plenty of picnic tables lower down too. A fun day out for families, but equally nice just for a change of scene or a simple lunch out. You can also see ducks and swans on the canal as you go in.

Transport & Parking

4.5

There is a car park near by, with some disabled spaces. It is pay and display but blue badge holders get up to 4 hours free. There is an incline down to the site which I found quite hard work, but there is also a drop off only space right near the entrance, so my husband picked me up there at the end. Next time I will get him to drop me off before parking.

Access

4.5

Entrance was step free, cafe area had plenty of space for wheelchairs. Step free outside deck area was very pleasant to sit on in nice weather. There is a lift down to the lower level, which has interesting displays and information. The site is steep but there was an easier path down which tacked back and forth, with pretty borders to look at. Plenty of seats both on the way and on the lower level. Some of the terrain was a little rough, but was fine as I have a good walker rollator.

Toilets

4.5

The actual accessible loo was out of order, but in the ladies (and I assume the gents), there was a disabled cubicle I could enter with my walker, right by the entrance. There were also some portaloos with a small ramp on the lower level. I didn't see a changing places toilet. Loos very clean.
