This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Walking Aid, Wheelchair, Powerchair, Mobility Scooter

Overview

We personally enjoy visiting Edinburgh, to us it is one of a few pleasant Cities to visit, lots to see and do, the Scottish people are very friendly, walking around is safe enough, and although the streets can be rather hilly in places, there is more than enough to keep disabled people happy throughout the day. Mind you, if you can, we recommend taking a train journey to Edinburgh Waverley railway station, or even the Coach companies who are of course cheaper, and if you think you would like to follow the coach holiday we took from Edinburgh to The Isle of Skye, then an overnight hotel stay will set you up ready for a very enjoyable trip. This first review has been provided to basically encourage you to follow our trip, review by review, and you can easily follow our route for the three day trip that lies ahead. USE THE PHOTOS we provide to make the trip come alive, and of course, do read our reviews of the places visited, even if you feel you would never be able to do the tour itself, what you will read will help you to see and understand a lot more about Scotland and its beautiful scenery. OUR TRIP BEGINS. (PHOTO 3) Edinburgh Take the train from home to Waverley station, Edinburgh. ON EUANS GUIDE SEARCH BUTTON, READ OUR “DISABLED TRAVELLERS” REVIEW FOR. EDINBURGH WAVERLEY RAILWAY STATION. ( it’s generally around page 2 or 3 on the list of reviews provided by other disabled people as well, all reviews are under the heading of “Disabled Travellers”. ( 11 photos provided ) as well as a historical account of the station itself. Once off the train, disabled lifts are available, and from the concourse we suggest you find the lift to take you up to Princess Street level, ( our photos will show you where to find the lift. ). Coming off lift, it’s a short level walk onto Princess street, and buses and the tram routes. SUGGESTED OVERNIGHT HOTELS our first PHOTO shows a small list of our recommended hotels. DO READ ON EUANS GUIDE SEARCH BUTTON, INTERCONTINENTAL EDINBURGH THE GEORGE. www.edinburgh.intercontinental.com ( 20 photos provided ) and the history of the hotel THIS IS A TOP 5* HOTEL. A five minute uphill walk from princess street, turn left from exiting lift on Princess street, then turn right into South street, David Street. Now it’s an uphill walk along here, until you take the second left turning into George street, and a few yards to reach the hotel. If your carer isn’t able to manage this, then you need to take a taxi from the station. ======================================================================= DO READ ON EUANS GUIDE SEARCH BUTTON, WALDORF ASTORIA EDINBURGH-THE CALEDONIAN. www.hilton.com/waldorf_astoria/edinburgh ( 8 photos provided ) and a interesting history of the hotel itself. THIS IS A TOP POSH 5* STAR HOTEL. From Princess street, the bus stops are handy as soon as you get onto Princess street, on the left side heading towards the castle and park. then a short ride of just 4 bus stops will get you close to the Waldorf ====================================================================== DO READ ON EUANS GUIDE SEARCH BUTTON, HOTEL INDIGO EDINBURGH-PRINCESS STREET. www.edinburgh.hotelindigo.com ( 20 photos provided ) and details of the hotel. This is a good 3.5 * STAR and popular. For a disabled person, this is the handiest of the hotels, its right on Princess street, opposite the stations exit, and reached by a pedestrian crossing. However, it’s not too easy to get around the hotel itself, the lift is small, ideal for normal wheelchairs and small scooters but a large scooter would struggle. There are ramps available upstairs where needed, but some corners were rather tight to get around, but we coped, and enjoyed this hotel. ===================================================================== We chose a three day mini bus Scottish highlands tour (with DISCOVER SCOTLAND TOURS) and our next photo shows the list of the main points we shall visit www.bookings@discoverscotlandtours.com

Transport & Parking

2

Parking can be a problem in Edinburgh, sometimes involving walking or taking the tram, so when you have parked, then use the bus or tram system to move around Edinburgh. Each individual hotel will offer you advise about parking.

Access

Edinburgh is a beautiful city, but its hilly, so you may find it difficult to get around, but use the bus or tram system, and you will cope well enough.
