Amazing pies with two entrance steps

4.5

Overview

The shop and tearoom is on the main street in Callander and offer take-away or eat in options. There are two steps into the building but once inside it is all on the same level. It came highly recommended by our coach driver, and when I had done my own research prior to travelling this came up as one of the best places to eat in Callander, and their pies came highly recommended.

Transport & Parking

If you're heading north from Edinburgh its at the far end of the high street close to the Dreadnought Hotel, and near the Station Road car park which has an accessible toilet. There local buses that stop close by on Main Street. Google says that Dunblane train station is the closest railway station, about 11 miles away, where you can get a taxi or there are buses or taxis from Stirling.

Access

Outside there were a couple of free standing table and chairs. There are two wide steps into the shop which have handrails on both sides, see photo. Once inside the shop and tearooms are open planned, on the same level and step free. On entering you come into the shop. It has two large, glass counters. The left hand side counter has savoury food including a wide selection of pies and ready made baguette style sandwiches. On the counter immediately facing you is their impressive cakes. In the window is a range of different types of bread. Behind the counters are where drinks are prepared. This is where you purchase your food and drink whether you are having a take away or eating in. There is then a doorway which leads through to the seating area. There are some small tables and a huge communal table by the window. The smaller tables and all chairs are freestanding. There is also another large table which items for sale.

Toilets

Sorry, I only had a brief stop so I did not have time to check out if there were toilets. However, there was an open door at the back of the tearoom which I supposed there was a toilet there. There is a public toilet which uses a RADAR key a couple of minutes walk away in Station Road car park, see my separate review of that for more details.

Staff

The shop was very busy, I think everyone from our minibus piled in there plus there were other customers, however, staff were friendly, welcoming, very efficient. I did not ask for assistance to carry my food into the tearoom but I got the feeling that they would have helped if asked.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

If you're in Callander and looking for delicious home baking to take away or a nice tearoom this is a terrific option, you will be spoilt for choice. I loved the macaroni cheese pie that I had, it had the perfect filling and pastry combo. One of the best pies I have ever had! Wish they did home delivery. Definitely would be my first choice if I was back in the area.
