Overview

This is a pop-up theatre which is a copy of the original Rose Theatre which pre-dates Shakespeare's Globe Theatre; despite being very historically accurate, this theatre is still really accessible. I had an amazing time here, it was absolutely hilarious and as one of the disabled platforms is uncovered with the 'groundling' seats area, I also got absolutely soaked (more expensive covered seats are available). It was a testament to how great the play was that no-one left during the downpour! I had a fantastic view throughout and if anything the weather actually added to the experience as the downpour started during the shipwreck scene. You are not allowed to put umbrellas up as it would restrict other people's views so I was glad of my waterproof and I would strongly recommend taking a good, warm one if you are in the groundling platform.

Transport & Parking

There is disabled parking at Clifford's Tower just outside the venue. There is also good access to the city by train although there is a bit of a walk from the station to the theatre, there appear to be lots of buses but I'm not sure of the frequency but there is a stop on Tower St.

Access

The venue is in a a created Shakespearean village which houses various good quality outdoor eateries and bars which I would recommend (the food and drink was lovely). I was able to sit at a set of picnic benches which actually had a disabled space cut into it meaning that I could sit in at the table with everyone else. I've never come across this before and it was great. The ground is a little uneven in parts but mostly manageable and the the theatre itself is very accessible with a wide ramp leading up to the platform with with room for several wheelchairs and also room for P.A.s/friends.

Toilets

There was an accessible portaloo which was basic but reasonably clean with plenty of space and grab rails. There was no red cord.

Staff

The staff were really helpful and lovely both when booking tickets, in the village and showing us to our seats. They made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. They definitely added to the experience.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

I would definitely recommend this theatre and its great access but the production itself was amazing. To be honest, I wasn't planning to see this play but I couldn't make The Tempest so went to this instead with lowered expectations but I couldn't have been more wrong: it was absolutely hilarious and at times poignant with a modern social references and the cast were superb! So much was said without actual language and the line delivery was fantastic.
