Overview
If you are interested in architecture, this is a great place to visit. The building itself, designed by Sergei Tchoban, is well worth seeing, inside and out, and is full of interesting detail. Two galleries house changing exhibitions of architectural drawings. Located at Christinenstraße 18a, on the site of a former brewery, the museum is in trendy Prenzlauerberg, and there are restaurants, cafes and bars of all kinds in the neighbourhood.
Transport & Parking
Can't comment on the parking. The museum is 5 minutes level wheel/walk from Senefelderplatz U-bahn station (line U2) which is wheelchair accessible. The local pavements are somewhat bumpy, with stretches of cobbles, but we encountered no serious obstacles.
Access
Level access to the beautiful nutwood panelled foyer where you buy tickets. Lift to all levels. The doors to the galleries are wide but quite heavy and could be a bit tricky for a solo wheelchair user. The galleries are excellent circulating spaces. Lighting is kept low to preserve the drawings, so this could be an issue for a visitor with impaired visions. Captions are in English as well as German.
Toilets
Located in the basement, the accessible loo (which doubles as the Ladies') has grab rails on both sides and is located so that side transfer onto the loo is possible from both sides. It's an architecturally stylish space. 4 stars rather than 5 because there didn't seem to be an alarm. As in the galleries, the door is suitably wide but quite heavy.
Staff
Friendly and helpful and English-speaking. One of them escorted us down to the accessible loo when we asked where it was, opening doors for us. When we explained that my wife doesn't have a disability ausweis, they nevertheless gave her the concessionary entry price (€3) and I was admitted free as her accompanist.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
A small museum - your visit will probably last not more than one hour. A trip here could be combined with a visit to the preserved section of the Berlin Wall at Bernauerstraße by returning to Senefelderplatz U-bahn station, travelling to the next stop in the direction of Pankow, which is called Eberswalderstraße, and then catching Tram M10 (direction Hauptbahnhof) and getting off at the stop named Gedenkstatte Berliner Mayer.
