Overview

I visited The Yard Dundee for an event for Euan’s Guide to share about the work we do to the service users that visit.

Transport & Parking

There is a big car park right out the venue, the spaces are designated to accessible parking but there is plenty of space to be able to get in and out of the car. I drove here so I’m not too sure about the public transport but there are bus stops nearby and room outside the venue to get dropped off by a taxi.

Access

To enter this venue there is a step but they have a portable ramp available so a wheelchair user is able to access it. You have to press a door bell to alert the staff you are outside as the building is secure for safety. It is mostly open planned inside this venue with lots of different play areas, I couldn’t take any photos though as there was too many children around. We set up our stall at an area where parents are able to sit and chat to each other whilst still being able to see their children. Outside there is lots of open space for children to play but it’s all secure. There was a step to get outside but there was a door further down the building with a concrete ramp to access the garden. I went into the staff office to have my lunch, the doors were quite narrow but I managed through it in my powered wheelchair.

Toilets

There is an accessible toilet in the venue that is very spacious. You have to ask the staff to open it for you, there’s a portable hoist and changing bed available in the accessible toilet. You can see the accessible toilet in the pictures and as you can see you are able to transfer from the right-side of the toilet.

Staff

All staff that I spoke to were very friendly and helpful.
