Overview

We stayed at Double tree because we got a great deal and they host a fantastic disco every month aimed at people with disabilities (Austins's Disco). We had an excellent stay with accessible room and very comfortable beds. We hit a big problem when deciding to go for a swim at the leisure club though. The lift didn't reach the centre. The pool itself had a hoist to access the water but when we went round the front of the hotel and tried to get in there was no disabled access and a flight of steps down to the centre. Why bother with the hoist! Unbelievable!

Transport & Parking

Parking was good. Plenty of spaces, right in front of hotel.

Access

The ramp to the front door was good, with automatic doors in the main part of the building. The lift was pretty poor, very small and being used by everyone in the hotel so we had long waits. It didn't reach as far as the leisure complex and there was no other disabled access to the pool and gym. We weren't able to have a swim.

Toilets

There was a wet room in our room and it was pretty good. Had to move furniture to get wheelchair into it. There was only a small shower chair so would not be suitable for anyone was is unable to sit up and balance themselves.

Staff

It would have been nice to get some help on arrival to our room. We struggled with all our luggage and equipment in the small lift and also struggled to find our room.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

The issue with the swimming pool but a dampener on what was otherwise a fun stay. Staff did offer to carry my son in his wheelchair down the flight of steps but I wasn't keen on that idea. I struggle to understand why Hilton would put a hoist in the pool (which has never been used) if wheelchair users can't get into the building.
