Venue Description

Dance Base is on a mission to get more people dancing. The organisation exists to encourage and celebrate the potential for dance in everyone. As Scotland’s National Centre for Dance, we offer a vibrant and uplifting focal point for dance as an art form, a way to exercise, and a way of life. We reach out to inspire wellbeing and creativity, and cultivate a future for dance in local, national and international communities. Located in the Grassmarket in Edinburgh, the centre caters for dancers of all ages and abilities, providing an accessible programme of activities that offers a diverse public a non-competitive, sociable and enjoyable way to keep physically fit and develop new creative skills. If you, or someone you know has access requirements, we will do everything we can to offer assistance. Whilst we aim to make every class accessible for everyone, people with additional support needs can find classes especially for them too.

Accessibility

Dance Base is accessible with lift or level access to all areas of the building. Accessible toilets and changing facilities can be found opposite reception and next to the main changing rooms at the rear of the building. Fixed induction loops are provided at the reception counter and in studio two, three and four. A portable induction loop is available for use in other areas of the building. It can be borrowed from reception. A fully accessible family play area is situated at the rear of the building. Large print brochures can be made available, please ask at reception.

Accessible Performances

We have BSL interpreted performances and post-show talks during the Festival.

Toilets

There two accessible toilets at Dance Base, both with level access, that have grab rails and wide doors.

Staff

Staff at Dance Base have received Disability Equality Training and are happy to discuss any access requirements.
