Venue Description

Built on the site of one of the largest Roman cities in Britain, Verulamium Museum is filled with ancient treasures and some of the finest mosaics outside of the Mediterranean. Visitors can immerse themselves in recreated Roman rooms and admire the craftsmanship of the intricate large-scale mosaics on display. You can also see recent discoveries such as the Sandridge Hoard, a collection of 159 Roman gold coins. In addition to hands-on discovery areas for younger visitors, the museum also provides a selection of free activity sheets for children, an opportunity for object handling and dressing up clothes available on weekends and school holidays.

Accessibility

There is step-free access to the entrance of the museum. There are two sets of doors, one set is automatic and opens outwards as you approach. The width of the door opening is 144cm. The front desk is straight ahead of you as you enter through the doors. There is a fixed loop hearing system at the desk. The museum inside is all on one level with the exception of the cloakroom, toilets and quiet space which are located in the basement. This can be accessed via a lift or by a flight of steps. The lift entrance width is 80cm. The dimensions of the lift are 105cm x 140cm.

Toilets

The accessible toilet is located in the basement. The door opens outwards and is locked by a locking handle. The width of the accessible toilet door is 86cm. The dimensions of the accessible toilet are 152cm x 280cm. There is a lateral transfer space, as you face the toilet, the transfer space is on the left. The lateral transfer space is 85cm and there is a dropdown rail on the transfer side.
