Venue Description

Built around 1500, Whitehall is a timber-framed Tudor house in the heart of Cheam Village. It contains exhibitions telling the stories of the people who lived at Whitehall and the history of the local area. The Nonsuch Palace Gallery includes a scale model of Henry VIII's fabulous Nonsuch Palace and a selection of pottery and architectural finds from the 1959 excavation. Changing exhibitions showcase local artists and displays about various topics using art and artefacts from Sutton's Museum Collections. Lots of activities for children and families including dressing-up clothes and toys. The tea room serves home-made cakes.

Accessibility

Entrance to house via ramp in garden, avoiding steps down. Only part of ground floor currently accessible. Ramp available for access to tea room. Admission free for carers.

Currently there are no accessible toilets. We are in the process of applying for a Heritage Lottery Fund award which, if granted, would enable us to provide enhanced access and accessible toilets.
