Did you know that 85% of neurodivergent people won’t attend an event if they suspect it isn’t neuroinclusive?

That’s why the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC), in collaboration with Welcome Brain Consulting and the Association of British Professional Conference Organisers (ABPCO), has launched the Neurodiversity in Events Toolkit—a resource designed to help event organisers create more welcoming, accessible spaces for neurodivergent people.

From sensory-friendly environments to clearer communication strategies, the toolkit offers practical, actionable steps that can make a huge difference in welcoming neurodivergent event goers. And with one in five people identifying as neurodivergent, including those with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and dyspraxia, these changes will undoubtedly make a positive difference.

Why does this matter?

The events industry in the UK is worth over £61 billion, yet many venues and organisers still overlook neurodiversity when planning events. This means that neurodivergent speakers, attendees, and professionals often face barriers that could easily be removed with a bit of thought and effort.

This isn’t just about making events more accessible—it’s about making them better for everyone.

When events are designed with neurodivergent people in mind, they become easier to navigate, more engaging, and more enjoyable for all attendees. Features such as quiet spaces, clear signage, and flexible seating don’t just help those with sensory requirements—they also benefit anyone who feels overwhelmed in busy environments. Streamlined communication and predictable schedules don’t just support neurodivergent attendees, they reduce stress for everyone by making events more user-friendly.

What’s in the Toolkit?

The Neurodiversity in Events Toolkit is packed with tips and best practices, highlighting three core principles:

  • Impact – Provides clear benchmarks to help organisations assess and improve their inclusivity.
  • People – Recognises the strengths of neurodiverse talent, fostering an environment where individuals can thrive.
  • Inclusivity – Helps businesses integrate diverse perspectives into their events and decision-making.

It's designed to be simple and practical, so event organisers can start making changes right away.
