Euan’s Guide is the multi-award-winning charity that helps over 16 million disabled people across the UK find great places to go. We’re best known for our trusted disabled access information website, which makes it easier, safer, and more rewarding for disabled people, their families, friends, and carers to discover and enjoy accessible places.

We’re at an exciting point in our journey. Our community is growing, our website is evolving and our ambitions are bigger than ever. To help shape this next chapter, we’re looking for new Trustees to bring energy, insight, and strategic thinking to our Board.

    Our Work

    We:

    • Share trusted, up-to-date disabled access information through EuansGuide.com – a review platform created by and for disabled people. It is the go-to resource for real-world insights about accessibility and disabled access.

    • Run The Access Survey – the UK’s largest and longest-running survey of its kind – to amplify lived experience of disabled people and highlight access issues.

    • Address the basic human right of access to toilets through our Safer Toilets initiative. Many disabled people face barriers to fully participating in society due to a lack of safe toilet facilities.

    Who we are

Euan’s Guide was founded in 2013 by the late Euan MacDonald MBE, a powerchair user, and his sister Kiki, after Euan was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease. Frustrated by the lack of access information when trying to go out, they discovered many other disabled people were facing the same barriers. So they decided to do something about it.

From a single review, Euan’s Guide has grown into a thriving community. Kiki now serves as Vice Chair of our Board. Our Chief Executive is Antonia Lee Bapty, and details of our current Team and Trustees can be found here.

    Person Specification

We are especially interested in welcoming new Trustees who bring experience in one or more of the following areas:

    Lived Experience

You know what it’s like to navigate a world not built with disabled access in mind – and you want to help change that. Whether you’re already part of the Euan’s Guide community or bring lived experience from another avenue, your perspective is essential. You’ll help ensure disabled voices continue to lead the way in all we do.

    Digital Growth and Revenue

You understand how to grow a web platform business that serves people at scale – maybe through tech, media, marketplaces, or membership models. You might have experience launching new features, developing new products, building communities, or unlocking new income streams. Your input will help us shape a smarter, more sustainable platform.

    Tourism, Culture & Entertainment

You know the power of a great day out. Whether your experience is in visitor attractions, festivals, hospitality, or destination marketing, you bring practical knowledge of how people travel, visit, and share. You’ll help us build partnerships and bring access to the heart of unforgettable experiences and day-to-day life.

    Trustee responsibilities

Our Trustees contribute their experience and insight across a range of strategic and governance responsibilities, including:

    • Shaping and championing our vision, mission, and values

    • Providing strategic direction and contributing to key planning and decisions

    • Ensuring we have the resources and structures needed to achieve our goals

    • Monitoring and managing risk, and fulfilling fiduciary duties

    • Overseeing compliance with charity and company law, and funder expectations

    • Supporting the Chief Executive as a critical friend and sounding board

    • Representing Euan’s Guide as a visible, engaged Ambassador

    • Helping us make connections and explore opportunities that support our mission

You do not need to be a governance expert – just willing to share your time, ideas, and perspective. Even a small contribution can make a big difference.

We’re committed to helping every Trustee feel confident in their role. Whether you’re new to boards or want to build on existing experience, we’ll support you with training, mentoring, and peer learning that suits your style.

    Board Term and Commitment

Trustees are appointed for an initial term of four years.

Our Board meets quarterly, usually in a hybrid format with most meetings held online, with one in-person strategy day each September in Edinburgh. On average, the role involves around six days per year, with the option to join a committee or short-term working group, which may involve up to four additional days annually.

We’re happy to make any reasonable adjustments to support your participation. We also encourage Trustees to attend events or conferences that align with our work.

Location is no barrier to getting involved, you do not need to be based in Edinburgh and you do not need prior board experience.

As part of this recruitment process, we will also assess whether applicants who are not appointed as a Trustee would be interested in supporting our work by joining a committee or working group.

    Remuneration

This is a voluntary role. Trustees are unremunerated, but we will cover reasonable travel, accommodation, and subsistence costs associated with attending Board meetings, events, or other Euan’s Guide activities.
