Changing Places Toilet Opens at Manchester Airport

Toilets may seem like a boring subject for a blog, but here at Euan’s Guide we love them! Well, not all toilets...just the accessible ones! And Changing Places toilets are the most accessible toilets around. They have specialist equipment and additional space that some people need just to go to the toilet. It is estimated that there are around 230,000 people in the UK alone that require facilities like these.

It has been great to watch the number of Changing Places grow since we launched Euan’s Guide. In December, the 100th Changing Places in Scotland was opened at Murrayfield Stadium and this week saw two new Changing Places open in Manchester Airport.

Tricia Williams, Manchester Airport Customer Services Director commented: “As part of our commitment to improving the passenger experience at the airport, we continually look at the facilities we provide to ensure they meet the needs of our passengers...As an airport that caters for 22 million passengers, it is essential that we work closely to provide a first class facility for all of them.”

As the number of Changing Places grows, so too does the number of lives they transform. With Changing Places opening in airports, international travel for many people becomes possible for the first time.

However, we are not alone in our love of the humble toilet. At the weekend, we attended a conference about Changing Places in Chesterfield. We were inspired by the people we met who work tirelessly to ensure that everyone has access to a suitable toilet wherever they go.

After a day of discussion and exchanging ideas about Changing Places, Kiki MacDonald, co-founder of Euan’s Guide, presented the People’s Choice award for the best Changing Places 2014 to Arsenal F.C. Arsenal was the first premiership football club to install a Changing Places and Alun Francis from the club said:

“Many thanks for this award. Through our ‘Arsenal for Everyone programme’, we strive to ensure everyone connected to Arsenal Football Club feels like they belong here. The installation of the Changing Places toilet is testament to this commitment.”

If you know anywhere that could benefit from a Changing Places toilet, get in touch with the team at Aveso and they will be happy to provide you with further information.
