Edinburgh's Festivals

A recent Guardian article has highlighted the lack of accessibility to many Fringe venues. However, there is lots to do around Edinburgh at this time of year and several other Festivals in the city which have excellent access.

The International Book Festival is mostly accessible and has a wide range of events on. Some performances are signed and free wheelchair hire is available. Find out more here.

We have just received a review for the world famous Edinburgh Military Tattoo which described the staff as ‘extremely helpful, polite and cheerful’ and gave the event an impressive 8/10 for accessibility.

Paul has also contacted us and given his account of watching street performers that are widely accessible (weather dependent, of course!). The Fringe also has some signed and captioned performances (click here for more info). You can also contact the Fringe’s Box Office Access Assistants who deal specifically with access requirements and bookings on 0131 226 0002 or 0131 226 0039 (text phone).

The Edinburgh International Festival has a list of venues that are accessible and companions go free. Contact the Access line on 0131 473 2089 for more information.

Hopefully next year some of the great ways the festivals have introduced to enable access will become standard across all of the August festivities.
