Overview

We visited the Meikle Restaurant & Bar within the Crieff Hydro Hotel which was level access.

Transport & Parking

There's a lot of parking at the hotel but there weren't many accessible parking spaces left. We ended up parking at the side of the hotel near the swimming pool. The parking space was on a bit of a hill so I got my carer to reverse into the parking space as there was still space to get out of the back of my car. It's just my preference that I don't like parking on a hill as I feel my wheelchair could tip back when I reverse out of my car. I'm not from this area so I can't comment on the public transport.

Access

It is level access into this hotel and into the restaurant. The restaurant is on the level that you enter the hotel at the main entrance so if you were just going there you wouldn't need to use a lift. The customer desk at the start of the restaurant is a little high for a wheelchair user to speak to a member of staff but you can go to the side and I don't know if you'd be able to go to the side to pay. I'd say it's spacious between tables in the restaurant but I did find the tables a little low. I was feeling breathless so I had my powerchair reclined back but I moved forward into the table and my knee hit against it. I managed to eat my afternoon tea okay but I don't know if I would struggle to eat a meal.

Toilets

I found it difficult to find the accessible toilet in the hotel and had to ask a member of staff where it was. I did find it very strange though that the accessible toilet was further away from the hotel entrance than the standard male and female toilets. There was a room when you first entered the accessible toilet which doesn't lock and then there were two rooms leading from this room with lockable doors. One of the toilets was just like a baby change room and the other which is pictured below was accessible and also had a baby change. The accessible toilet wasn't too big but I'd say it is big enough for a wheelchair user and someone to help them. You'd only be able to transfer at one side of the toilet though. The emergency red cord was tied up but I actually didn't notice until after when I looked at my pictures. If I visit again and it's still tied up I'll fix it.

Staff

The staff were all friendly and helpful when we were in the restaurant and in fact when we were also walking around the hotel.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

There were hand sanitising stations at the entrance to the hotel but I can't remember seeing any when entering the restaurant. I did feel safe though when visiting as it wasn't too busy and the afternoon tea was delicious.
