DIG is a hands-on archaeological adventure allowing our trainee ‘diggers’ to discover the most exciting artefacts from 2000 years of York’s history! With four special in-door excavation pits, all based on real-life digs in the city and filled with replica Roman, Viking, medieval and Victorian finds, children can grab a trowel and explore how people lived in these times. Accessibility

Wide entrance doors, accessible height admissons desk, lift to first floor, hand rail on stairs, accessible toilets, ramps to access some areas of the guided tour, full wheelchair access. (numbers may be limited per tour), large print guides (exhibition only), small number of ear defenders.

Toilets

We have one standard accessible toilet located past the admissions desk towards the back of the building. It is only accessible with a Radar key, however, the admissions staff can give you access to it. This toilet has; a left hand transfer space, support rails next to the toilet, emergency pull chord and accessible height sink with lever taps. It has a wide door and no steps to enter.

Staff

All DIG staff have completed the Welcome All training which is accredited by Welcome to Excellence. Some staff have basic BSL training and some have Autism awareness training and Guide training for visitors with Visual Impairments.

Guide and assistance dogs are welcome at the DIG. DIG has a small sensory garden which can be used by all visitors.
