Overview
There's an official website that gives useful information including public transport information - http://www.northumberland.gov.uk/local/Parks.aspx When visiting the area, this is my favourite place - just beautiful and perfect for the dog. Easy to access the sand if you have robust wheels though best avoid the really dry or really wet sand. There's a visitor centre and country park on the land side of the car park. The path round the lake is very accessible.
Transport & Parking
Whilst there are blue badge spaces in the visitor centre car park, there are none in the Chevington car park which is closest to the beach (take the driveway into the country park then turn right just before the visitor centre). The car park does get busy weekends and school holidays. The surface is very rough so take care on foot.
Access
The way down to the beach is - out of the car park on the path, bear left, round the barrier (plenty of room round the side for pedestrians) then turn right down the sandy track through the dunes. You're then straight onto the beach. There's no pathway beyond this so you'll need robust wheels (I have an electric powered wheelchair trike which manages firm sand and rough ground well). You may need help getting back up the track on a short stretch of soft sand. Avoid the really wet or really dry sand - otherwise the beach is fantastic and you can go for miles in either direction. At the country park, there's a metalled path round the lake - highly accessible.
Toilets
There's a disabled loo over at the visitor centre. Check it's opening hours/days in low season though!
