Overview

Direct access to the lift is excellent and the lift itself is well designed but access to the lift station is challenging. The only reason for stars.

Transport & Parking

We took the service bus from Tromso. A one way ticket is 60 krone, 100 return but you can get an all day for 100. So make enquiries before buying. The bus had good wheelchair access. The is a large car park at the lift if you arrive by car b

Access

This was very challenging. There is a very steep hill from the car park and/or bus stop to the lift station. It was a struggle for the Scooter and would be a mighty challenge for a chair of any type. Hard to self propel and I would have a fear of toppling backwards in a power chair. The disabled access is via a roller shutter at the lift car itself which is at the opposite side to the ticket station. The ticket station is not accessible so you would need someone ambulant to purchase ticket 190 krone. Once at the top of the lift access good to the viewing station.

We went in snow. As previously mentioned there is a very steep hill to traverse to get to the chair lift access. I thought I had made a great achievement in willing my Scooter up the hill. What I was not prepared for was the journey down. The heavy snow had been scraped away but the hill had not been gritted. Having a clutch brake on the scooter meant that it took off down the hill like a bob sleigh and I had no control over it. If I had not had THREE friends with me there would have been a serious accident. They grabbed me by the arms, slidining themselves, and slew me sideways. As I fell off one of them broke my fall. No harm done and I won a bronze in the Paralympic two-man bob 😉
