Overview

A favourite place to visit for either a coffee or lunch after a walk along the Peffery Way.

Transport & Parking

4.5

There is a small carpark with one disabled bay at the far end of it, closest to the start Peffery Way. We find it easier to access the cafe and the platform from the opposite end of the car park. The car park can get quite busy and there is currently additional parking in an over flow car park just past the disabled bay, just be careful of the potholes in this area.

Access

4

The cafe is situated in an original Victorian railway station; from the carpark there is level access round to the platform where most of the tables are located via a dropped curb to the far right of the building. As a wheelchair user we have found it easier to sit outside on the platform as there is more space and the access to this area is step free. There is a step up into the inside of the cafe but they do have a portable ramp which we have used to access the tables inside in the colder months but it is quite a small building so it can be a bit tight for space inside particularly if it’s busy. The same ramp can be used to access the other buildings along the platform; the museum and the shop. The platform can also be accessed from the other end, directly from the Peffery Way up a small slope but it is across grass and a little bumpy and uneven on wheels, so more comfortable to go through the carpark. Opposite the cafe there is also a picnic area which can be accessed with a wheelchair from either end of the platform.

Toilets

I have never looked for or used an accessible toilet here and am not sure if there even is one. There is a step up into the men’s and women’s toilets.

Staff

5

The staff have always been very helpful in directing us to a table with the most space and leg room for a wheelchair user. They take your orders from your table, have always engaged in conversation with my brother directly who is non verbal and communicates with makaton signing, and are always happy to bring whatever specific cutlery and straws that we have needed, even remembering without us having to ask on occasions when we’ve returned. The food is good and reasonably priced too.
