Overview

The only thing that could be better is a changing places toilet. Set around a cliff top with wonderful views, step free paths/slopes take you through the penguins and other free to walk/fly sea birds, around habitats for wading birds, past seals, otters and wild flowers to underground viewing tunnels for the seals and a small aquarium. The paths are wide and I saw some tactile exhibits with a talking telescope. Great restaurant and good toilets.

Transport & Parking

4

Ignore the signs to parking - go to the actual building and there are two car parks (upper deck and underground lower level). If possible park on the upper level as there is level access to the cafe via a walkway. From there you can go down in the lift to the venue ticket /start place. This car park is very popular so you might have to wait for a space - otherwise it's a long walk from the designated car park in the town.

Access

5

Once at the entrance there are several blue ramps (see picture of long blue ramp) to go up to the top level where you start the one way route through the attraction. Arrive early for the penguin feeds where they can come right up to you (you walk through their habitat). Free flying birds may swoop past your head but calm down after feeding. Floor to waist glass panels allow easy seated viewing of sea bird enclosures and others have a lowered fence section. Views of all animals are excellent. Paths are solid concrete or wooden planks with minimum vibration. Some plastic flap exits from different areas. Underground you walk through an underwater seal tunnel and a small aquarium. The lighting is very low here. Talking telescope out to sea is not wheelchair accessible. Wide paths and slopes throughout. Seating and picnic tables along the way.

Toilets

4.5

Three accessible toilets. Cafe level, half way round and lower gift shop level. Good standard of space and all standard access features although I don't recall a shelf for ostomy users. Baby changing is both in accessible toilets and also in the cafe toilet parent/child section. Note the light is on a timer and goes out quickly! Prepare to use it in the dark! No Changing Places toilet/hoist facilities which is a shame. Clean and warm.

Staff

I've been twice and both times staff are informed and respectful.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

The cafe has good space to get lovely hot meals and spacious seating inside and out. Great views. Entrance discounts (carers were free I think).
