Outdoors - Chapter 4

Good access, nice refreshments

This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Wheelchair

Overview

Access is direct to the cafe or via the shop. It's on the ground floor at the front. Floors nice and smooth, no steps. Front door is a bit awkward but a staff member saw us and hurried across to help. Circulation space inside can be a bit tight if it's busy but there are plenty of seats in two seating areas. There's a brand spanking new disabled loo. Staff helpful and pleasant. I shall visit again.

Transport & Parking

Parking on the high st is limited though there are three bays right outside, one of which is disabled. Manns have a car park at the rear but now keep it locked. They will open it on request but the logistics of that are tricky if you're disabled! There are two public car parks within a few minutes wheel/push.

Access

4

Access inside is good with smooth floors and no steps. There's a small threshold and doormat to wheel over but nothing too tricky. Door opens inwards from the street and is a little awkward for a wheelchair user or carer. If they see you (the door has a full length glass panel) the staff seem good at coming to assist. Inside the cafe, there's plenty of seating - chairs are mostly free standing upright chairs and can be relocated to allow space for your wheelchair. If you need to stow a wheelchair there's limited space in the seating area if it's full but it's fine if it's not too busy.

Toilets

The loo is lovely and because it's not the only loo, seems not to be abused. However the siting is a bit awkward as the able bodied loo is right next door to it, with a door that opens straight onto the door of the assisted loo - see the photo - so care is needed if you're going into the disabled loo that someone doesn't exit the other loo and inadvertently bowl you over! Careless design! I would have awarded five stars had it not been for this.

Staff

3.5

Friendly and helpful.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

If they can't relocate the loo, they should ideally rehang the door of the able bodied loo so users exiting it can see a disabled person and avoid knocking them over!
