Overview

Before visiting the cathedral we checked about parking and access on the internet. We were some what surprised to discover that Parking by the cathedral was so expensive . Even blue badge holders had to pay £8 to park in the Disabled bays by the long path to the cathedral. There were a few. Blue badge spaces . But given it was a hot day we decided to pay anyway. Access was down a long pathway through the grounds of the cathedral. The entrance was level, if you have a carer with you then they are free. It’s a self guided tour and you are given a map to assist with getting around. There are a number of of stopping points which are numbered where you can find out about various things of interest in the cathedral. Getting around the cathedral was really easy any steps had ramps meaning it was all just about fully accessible apart from one small bit by the organ . We also saw the Magna Carta which was on display. This was in a separate room and was in a dark curtain off area. But again access was easy. There was a member of staff on hand to help if needed. After we had seen everything we decided to have lunch and sat in the cloisters as there are plenty of tables here as well as in the refectory. There was a good choice of food to cater for all tastes. We had sandwiches which were very nice followed by a cake and drink . Would visit again if in the area.

Transport & Parking

Apart from the cost of parking. £8 to park by the cathedral, this was also the charge for blue badge holders. There were a few blue badge parking spaces near the pathway to the cathedral others further round the grounds . This is on road parking by a wall so you would need to park the car the right way if you needed to open the car door fully.

Access

Access to the cathedral is easy all on one level and get round the cathedral was very good. There was plenty of seating if you needed to stop. Ramps were provided to gain access where there were steps. There were plenty of volunteers around if you needed help with anything.

Toilets

0

We did see a sign for disabled toilets but these were not used.

Staff

Staff were helpful explaining about the cost of tickets, and getting round the cathedral using the map.
