Sea Air and Dog Walking

Visit date:

This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Walking Aid

Overview

The dog would give it 5 stars but he doesn't have to use the public toilets! A lovely walk along the beach path which stretches for a good 0.5 miles (I guess) from Sandilands to the Boy Grift Bridge. I didn't make it that far on 2 crutches but it was good to get the sea air and some walking in. Dog loved bouncing amongst the small dunes along the beach dragging my husband behind him! He's not quite used to the water yet but there were people walking along the sea edge so I guess it's not boggy!. Near nature reserve so there would be some good bird watching. Not much around today as quite windy and grey.

Transport & Parking

Off the Huttoft Bank road, a small blue sign indicates disabled parking up a single track road. With beach huts on your left it takes you to a small carpark. There is only enough room for 2 cars. It does give access the best access to the beach path for disabled folks. I managed to turn round to go back.down the road but we were the only car there.

Access

3.5

A ramp will take you onto the beach path. It is quite steep and I managed with 2 crutches. I saw an elderly man in a mobility scooter manage it without a problem.

Toilets

4

I would have given 5 stars except that I had to drive down to the main carpark to access to toilets. Unless you can manage steps, you cannot access to toilets from the disabled parking area due to the steep bank between. The disabled toilet was via radar key and was clean tidy with hand rails. A changing room toilet was in construction. The main toilets were being charged at 40p. ( can use card payment).

Staff

5

Only staff we met was at the Sandi-dunes cafe. Very nice lady. Coffees and tea including decaff, soya almond milk etc.. Toasted cheese sandwiches, scones...Gluten free snacks available but at £3 each!! Free dog treats and water bowls. Gave one to our dog but he wasn't keen. She gave him a piece of cheese and that didn't touch the sides.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

I believe improvements are being made by the Council. Environmental officers were out in their hi viz jackets today. I will visit again as it is only 30.mins from home.
