Overview

The Satake Museum hosts exhibitions of arms, armour and artwork owned by the Satake family who once ruled over the Akita domain from Kubota Castle for over 300 years.

Transport & Parking

3

The museum is a 15-20 minute walk from Akita station across streets with tactile paving and level kerbs. The museum lies inside the castle grounds on top of a hill, and negotiating the sloping road from street level may be difficult in icy conditions. The easiest way to visit is to take a taxi from the station. Taxis can drop visitors off in the museum car park.

Access

4.5

The museum has ramp access at the front and is all on one level inside. The two main galleries are spacious and well-lit. Exhibit labels are almost all in Japanese. Large-print leaflets are available for visitors, but there is no braille support available. Both galleries have seats facing the main displays allowing visitors to take a break during their tour.

Toilets

0

The accessible toilet is clearly signposted. I can't comment further as I did not use them.

Staff

Friendly, approachable and knowledgeable.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

The Satake Museum is a fantastic small museum that's definitely worth a visit! The lineup of exhibits changes every few months which makes return visits worthwhile.
