At least partially accessible walk

Overview

We really went on a bit of a scoping visit, pending a possible return in the autumn. I had read somewhere that the walk around the dam was partially accessible. We did the accessible section but then turned back. Later, we will attempt the 'non-accessible' section too, but on a summer's day, I was too hot and tired to do the whole circular walk. However, the walk does continue all the way round and, in theory, it should be reasonably level, as it follows the water level. We visited mid-August, which often means lots of nettles and wasps (both my nemesis!) However, this walk had neither. The path is wide and well kept. Beautiful bright yellow flowers on both sides but apart from occasional bumble bees, we didn't see anything that stings.

Transport & Parking

4

We drove there and parked in the general car park. It said that blue badge holders didn't have to pay but it either didn't say (or we missed it) that there is accessible parking near the toilet block. This would have made it much easier but by the time we saw it, we had already made our way down from the car park.

Access

From the toilet block, there is a wide, flat path along one side of the dam. It is well accessible with the right chair but it is grass and so quite hard going. I was using my mountain trike and by the time we'd gone there and back, I was quite tired. It was windy though and quite warm, so that didn't help. I would be interested to attempt the full circle some time.

Toilets

4.5

Toilets were easy to find and reasonably clean considering they are open to all. My only complaint is that the toilet is very low.

Staff

Not really applicable, as we didn't see any staff.

Photos

Photo taken from the toilet/accessible car park area. The dam looks lovely and blue, with a tree at the beginning of the walk. The accessible path, with grass surface, stretching along one side of the dam. My hubby is walking my assistance dog ahead of me. At the far end of the accessible path is a small beach area, though this is still grass. I'm in my mountain trike, holding onto my dog because there was blue-green algae in the dam, so not possible to let her paddle. Looking back towards the main facilities, the accessible grass path stretches out into the distance. Yellow flowers line both sides of the path but it is plenty wide enough. View from the accessible fishing area, looking out across the dam, with the walk on the left.
