Overview
Entry to the centre was free, and there is a cafe, toilets and gift shop. The cafe had a decent range of gluten free options and extremely good ice cream. The gift shop area was large and light, with second hand bookshelves, local makers, superb range of cards and books. There is an exhibition which was £5 entry (£4.75 concessions) but carers got in free (even though I was in a wheelchair, we had to ask.) It was worth the entry fee. It included a woolly mammoth skeleton (most likely fake but very effective), a few exhibits and well presented information boards about human life in the area, but the star attraction was a beautiful film of the area, with drone footage, excellent commentary and relaxing backing music. There were bench seats to watch it and these were the only seats in the exhibition, which though small, was good, and easy to navigate. You could go out and in again on the same visit. Outside the centre there were paths, but these were also a bit stony. However we did go out for a short wheelchair ride, and could have gone much further.
Transport & Parking
We drove there. The car park is level if a little stony, and there were blue badge spaces near the entrance. None of the spaces were marked out, as such, so there was plenty of space to exit the vehicle even if all the spaces were taken. Step free entrance.
Access
Indoors everything was level with a fairly smooth surface. There was plenty of room for a wheelchair except in the cafe, but there were several entry points to the cafe, so this didn't matter. If a rest is needed there were seats around. I have poor eyesight so struggled to read the menu written up on blackboards behind the counter, but staff would have helped.
Toilets
The toilets were clearly signposted and to the left of the entrance. The accessible one had a seat raiser, which was too high for me. Staff offered to remove it but I managed with assistance. There was space for a carer, and paper rather than hand driers, always a plus. The gents and ladies were also level entrance. All toilet facilities were clean.
Staff
All of the staff were lovely, friendly and took an interest in visitors.
