Overview

The Crown is a gem, a pub bang in the centre of Glastonbury. It's on Market Place, on the town square with its Market Cross, on the flat, at the bottom of the High Street and about a minute away from the entrance to Glastonbury Abbey. Originally an eighteenth century coaching it has recently been refurbished, making it accessible but not losing its old world charm. There is step free access on the ground floor and there is an accessible toilet. the pub serves food from breakfast to evening meals. I had breakfast there and the food was delicious. The pub also has 8 bedrooms on the 1st and 2nd floors. I am unable to comment about those. I don't think there is a lift. From the website the 1st floor bedrooms look out at the back of the hotel and the 2nd floor have rooms on both the front and back of the hotel. The front rooms look out over Market Place.

Transport & Parking

Glastonbury does not have a train station. I took the 376 bus from Bristol which took about 1.5 hours. The bus stop is about 1 minute from the pub. There is a public car park directly behind the hotel, for which there is a charge.

Access

There is step free access on the ground floor. The entrance slopes up slightly towards the double, manual front doors, which were already open when I visited. Inside there is a widish corridor which goes all the way through the pub to the rear outdoor seating area. Inside the pub there are rooms leading off the corridor. On the left hand side there is a bar, at standing height, and this room has views out to the Market Place. There is free standing seating, a mix of standard dining chairs and high bar stools and table to match the seating seating height, all free standing. On the opposite side of the corridor there is another room, with no windows, but well lit and with large mirrors, so a pleasant, quiet place it sit.

Toilets

The accessible toilet is at the back of the pub. It is further along the corridor. It has a manual door and is opened with a RADAR key. It also includes baby changing facilities. The accessible toilet was a bit more compact than others I've been into. There is right side transfer which was not obstructed by bins. There are plenty of grab rails. There is an emergency cord. it was clean, tidy and well maintained.

Staff

Staff were really lovely. I was visiting Glastonbury for the Beltane (May Day) celebrations and the town and pub were busy. However, staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. I ordered my food at the bar and my food was served to my table. Great service.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

This was my 2nd visit to Glastonbury, last time I wouldn't eat indoors due to risk of covid, and it was such a relieve to find a nice pub serving really delicious food which was so ease to access and so centrally located, plus its a really nice, friendly pub. Loved it and definitely would go back.
