Overview

Not all all impressed in general with the Town centre area, typical council town, in need of care and attention. First of all parking can be difficult, it’s a busy town, and only have small car parks. The best one for this trip will be Copenhagen street car park, which is situated by the river Severn (photo 1) but it is generally full, get here early if you can. It’s an ideal car park for those who enjoy walking or jogging along the river bank, feeding the hundreds of swans (photo 2) and there are areas for children to enjoy, and it’s reasonably close to High street and shops, so busy busy busy. Disabled have only three hours FREE parking, so bear this in mind. We offer you an idea on parking to keep costs down, so read that section when you get to it. There are only five disabled bays (photo 3) but you are allowed to park in other bays, just put blue badge in window though. Now you have a game getting up to town centre, and we say up. There is a steep slope from car park, we had help from passing people, and it’s along a narrow path on a narrow road up to traffic lights. Cross over and walk ahead, over pot holes and un-even paths and the road is no better. The area is untidy and dirty, most off putting. (Photo 4) but you soon reach the High street with many familiar names. TURN LEFT here, and next to M&S (photo 5) you will find Costa Coffee. DUMP, is how we describe it. It’s in a supposed grade 11 building, which is falling apart, badly in need of repair work and a good coat of paint, and inside we found just a long cafe area (6) but at least we found a seat, then you order at the counter (7) and thankfully the kind young assistant carried our drinks over to us. We had to park wheelchair over by toilet (photo 8) which itself was just a typical toilet block, white tiles, plain facilities, small, but at least it had pull cord and grab rail (photo 9) Opposite Costa, we find the Guildhall, and worth a quick look. READ OUR REVIEW FOR, WORCESTER GUILDHALL. Back outside on High Street, walk on ahead towards TK Maxx (photo 10) looking at any shop you need, but we chose TK Maxx because we knew we could do our shopping here, a bag was most important (11) and then we could walk through store (photo 12) to far end and find the lift needed to get us down (13) and out onto The Shambles (14). TURN RIGHT HERE and walk ahead. NOW WE HAVE TO DECIDE WHAT WE WANT TO DO. As car park only allows FREE parking for three hours, do we rush on and get full trip done in three hours, our suggested day trip will take about seven hours if you want to see it all, it’s worth it mind you, the seven hours, or do we now return to car park and follow our suggestions on what to do before returning to this car park. READ ON FOR OUR SUGGESTION NOW. We decided to go back to car and move it. (Not that I,m tight, just dont like wasting money) says my husband. So at the end of The Shambles, TURN RIGHT, and walk along to High Street, TURN RIGHT then LEFT on Copenhagen street, and back to car. SET SAT NAV WR1 1DT to take you to Worcester City Art gallery and Museum. There is no car park available, so drive past Art gallery, TURN FIRST RIGHT, ST MARYS STREET, TURN RIGHT, and park where you can. Walk down to Art Gallery. It’s not a large gallery, but the museum side is very interesting, lots of bits and pieces. The Art gallery is basically one room, but all in all, a good hour could be spent here, well, not spent, ITS FREE, and that’s a word my husband likes, FREE. SET SAT NAV. WR1 2HB. Copenhagen Street car park, and return to the car park. It’s usually full by now, but people in and out, so be patient and you will get back in, and have 3 hours FREE PARKING. (Is he really that tight ? Oh yes. ! With that cheeky look on his face. ) Now, walk up that hill, cross lights and walk up to High Street, forget Costa, there’s far nicer places in just a few minutes. TURN RIGHT HERE, THEN LEFT on Pump street, and walk ahead. IF you had made decision to continue with our trip earlier on, then at the end of The Shambles, TURN LEFT. BOTH TRIPS are now the same. A few yards on, TURN RIGHT ON FRIAR STREET. What a lovely old Medieval street this is, WELL WORTH the effort you have made. READ OUR REVIEWS FOR,,,,, ( FRIAR STREET review ) then (GREYFRIARS review ). Then look at ( TUDOR HOUSE MUSEUM review ) and you will get the full benefit of your walk down Medieval Worcester. At the far end of Friar street, TURN LEFT, THEN CROSS AT LIGHTS, go a little way LEFT to the TURN DOWN RIGHT and head towards Edgar Tower (photo 15) follow bend left, and walk to Severn street and walk RIGHT to MUSEUM OF ROYAL WORCESTER. (photo 16) Here you will find the famous Porcelain factory with tours if you want to. Turn onto the yellow paved entry, (photo 17) (restaurant and drinks available here) and just to the left you have the entry to museum (photo 18) and you are welcomed to look around the shop. If you would like to enjoy the tour, it has a charge of £6.00 a head, no disabled support offered. Guess what, we did not take the tour, I told you he was tight. But even so, it was a nice visit. To get back to car park, allow 15 minutes easy paced walk. Continue ahead from museum, to the left, and walk down towards the Diglis House Hotel. SEE OUR REVIEW FOR DIGLIS HOUSE HOTEL. We still had time left to pop into this delightful Hotel for a drink, (he is not that tight) and enjoyed a relaxing look around, very nice. From here, walk few feet to the river Severn, TURN RIGHT and walk along the banks to return to Copenhagen Car park. (Allow an easy 10 minute walk). We hope you have enjoyed our suggested WORCESTER day trip visit to town centre.

Transport & Parking

2.5

Parking for disabled is difficult, not many car parks do so, those that do have few bays, and all involve a long push for carers. The best one which we recommend is Copenhagen Street car park so enter this WR1 2HB as your sat NAV directions and carefully follow road signs for Copenhagen street, and turn down the narrow road signed as No through road sign. Then it’s downhill from then on, or should we say uphill, as carer will need to get you up into High Street, thats appropriate, High Street.

Access

2.5

It’s hard going for carer, pushing you uphill into town. The area is a mess with pot holes on paving and road, it’s not level as to many bumps to avoid. Once up into High street though, it’s quite level from then on.

Toilets

3

Toilets can be found as you walk around town centre, such as Costa coffee, M&S, Greyfriars, Tudor House museum, Royal Worcester museum, and Diglis House hotel. See reviews for each individual place.
