We are delighted to hear that the Edinburgh Deaf Festival is back for 2023!

Edinburgh Deaf Festival is an accessible celebration of deaf culture, language and heritage. Their aim is to bring the arts to deaf audiences, giving deaf people access to festivals in a way that they haven’t had before. The festival also gives mainstream audiences the opportunity to learn more about deaf culture whilst enjoying a variety of performances.

Join them for a variety of performances and events over 10 jam-packed days for more than 60 events which include theatre, comedy, workshops, tours and exhibitions. There are a mix of events from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the Edinburgh International Festival and the Edinburgh Book Festival. All performances will be accessible to deaf and hearing audiences through BSL, BSL/English interpretation, or captions.

The Edinburgh Deaf Festival will take place from 11-20 August 2023.

The festival is organised by Deaf Action, a charity who are, like us, based in Edinburgh. Deaf Action works with deaf people across Scotland and the South of England, to empower deaf people to achieve their potential and fully participate in society with equality of rights, access and opportunity.

Did you know Deaf Action also provide interpreters and captioners on demand?

If you want to see a performance during the Edinburgh festivals but it isn’t yet accessible to you, Deaf Action will aim to source an interpreter or captioner to make sure you can see the performance you want, when you want.

This service is subject to availability and you can find out more about the Deaf Action interpreters and captioners on demand service here.
