Venue Description

Backstage Theatre is one of Ireland's leading arts venues, bringing the best shows, gigs and entertainment. Located in Longford in Ireland's Hidden Heartlands, Backstage Theatre is the ideal choice for theatre, dance, comedy, family fun, school trips and a great night out. Our venue is also multi-functional offering an ideal location for conferences, meetings and workshops in Longford. Backstage offers a welcome space for people to enjoy and engage with the arts. We endeavor to enhance the cultural landscape of Longford, celebrate our artists, enrich the lives of people in our community and contribute to the development of the arts nationally.

Accessibility

Backstage Auditorium can accommodate up to three wheelchairs spaces for each show, with a view to increasing this number in the near future. If patrons require a wheelchair space they are invited to inform a box office staff member at the time of booking.

Accessible Performances

All performances are accessible to wheelchair users and members of the Deaf Community. We offer those with hearing loss access to a new range of Assisted Listening Devices. This system will enable audience members to hear speech and sound from the main stage regardless of where they are seated in our auditorium. The receivers resemble a small radio that communicates using magnetic waves via headphones. The headphones can be worn to provide amplified sound directly to the wearer. Alternatively, an infrared receiver linked to a portable induction loop worn around a person’s neck will transmit amplified sound via their hearing aid/cochlear implant. We have five of each units available.

Toilets

A wheelchair-friendly toilet is available in the foyer directly beside the box office.

Staff

Staff members took part in neuroinclusivity training in 2023 and will undertake further disability awareness training in September 2024.
