Meccano Exhibition

Meccano Exhibition article image

See the wonderful creations of The North East Meccano Society at the Meccano Exhibition.

For more than 100 years, Meccano has inspired people of all ages to bring their ideas and imagination to life.

Devised by Frank Hornby (who was also responsible for Hornby Dublo trains and Dinky toys) to amuse his two sons, the toy was patented in 1901 as ‘Mechanics Made Easy.’ It became known as Meccano in 1907 and went on to take the toy world by storm.

The North East Meccano Society will be exhibiting their finest creations in the Collections Study Room next to Open Stores at Beamish Museum.

Previous exhibitions have included models of Stephenson’s Locomotion No. 1, a fire fighting tugboat and some of our very own vehicles.

As with all of Beamish's daytime events, you can use your Unlimited Pass or Friends of Beamish membership to enjoy this special event.
