Overview

We have been coming to Clumber Park for years and love it but now the Caravan and Motorhome club site there has reopened following renovations and upgrades, so I stayed for a few days to see what it was like. This site is likely to become a firm favourite. It is easy to get to, easy for me to get around, and close enough to the main park for walks.

Transport & Parking

I travelled in my motorhome and found it very easy to get to. It is just off the A1 and is signposted on the brown visitor attraction signs. The entrance to Limetree Avenue is through a stone archway, but our motorhome at 3.2 m high had no problems getting through. On arrival, you pull up right outside reception and go in to register and pay. I used my manual wheelchair for that and had no difficulties. There are plenty of dropped kerbs.

Access

The roads around the site are tarmac and are in pretty good condition. There are service points around the site with bins, water and waste. I found these easy to get to. The pitches are mostly gravel hardstanding. I wish they would start providing a few spaces without gravel but it seems to be the standard. There are also a few grass pitches if you prefer that. We did several walks from the site. There are some very quiet roads you can walk along, which are well surfaced if you need solid ground. I used my mountain trike and did some of the off-road walks. The walk down through Hardwick Village to the lake is lovely, though all downhill on the way there (which means all uphill on the way back). I was conscious of my energy levels, especially as it was a hot day, so we didn't do the full lake walk too. We also found quite a nice walk just behind the campsite, which was good for letting my assistance dog off lead. It was a nice straight track though would probably get muddy if it rained. There were hundreds of blackberry bushes with ripe fruit for picking.

Toilets

4.5

There are two facility blocks on site, both brand new. Each has an accessible shower room and an additional accessible toilet. I was pitched close to one of the blocks and used the shower each morning. It was spotlessly clean and well laid out with grab rails, chairs, etc. I thought the floor was just a tad slippery, so be careful if you tend to find that a problem. I've deducted half a point because the separate toilet was out of order the whole time I was there. It wasn't a problem as I use my own mostly and there was one in the shower room, but considering the site had only been open two weeks, it seemed a bit of a shame that it hadn't been prioritised.

Staff

I found all the staff to be friendly, helpful and polite. They allowed me to have a couple of visitors on site and could answer questions about walks and other general queries. They offered me a map of the walking trails, which was handy. They patrolled the site regularly to check that everything was okay. As I was travelling alone, this made me feel really safe.

Accessible shower with fold down seat plus plastic moveable seat. There is a curtain around the shower area. Accessible toilet with grab rails. Entrance area to the facilities block, with wide open paved surface. One of the service points with fencing around the sides. Ramp up to the facilities block. Wide paved path going around the facilities block. Electric hook up point behind the pitch is on grass, about a metre off the gravel surface. Not all pitches have the hook up point directly behind. Pitches down one side of the roadway, showing gravel hardstandings with grass in between.
