Overview

We phoned ahead of visit and were assured that there would be no problems with a camper van and 2 disabled visitors. We could not find a parking space out of the way for our van & so parked in a disabled bay. The bays are very tight, just large enough for a car. A woman came out and told us that she was not happy with where we had parked but could not offer us an alternative and said that camper vans usually paid a 'bit more' the parking display did not show 'a bit more' fee. After more discussion we left the woman still unhappy with us. The café had a very steep ramp and was difficult to negotiate. We had to ask another visitor where to pay, the shop was pointed out to us. My husband had to call into the shop for assistance but no one was available to put the ramp out! We were then informed that we had not required the 2 hours left to go on the audio tour. We left at this stage very disappointed.

Transport & Parking

1

The parking bays are very small and poorly marked, no extra space for wheelchair access, some of the larger cars were well over their allotted spaces.

Access

2

Some of the signs were poor and we had to ask a fellow visitor where to pay. The site is level and had the staff been more helpful it could have been a pleasurable experience.

Toilets

We didn't use the loo but understand that the facility is new.

Staff

2

No one seemed able to help, the woman in the car park was obviously out of her depth and she had no one to advise her. The staff in the cafe were very friendly and helpful. The shop was very busy and there were ramps but staff didn't know how to deploy them so we couldn't go in to buy tickets.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

I wouldn't recommend or discourage people from going but they should be aware that the staff/volunteers didn't seem to have a positive attitude towards the disabled, there seemed to be a lack of organisation. The ramp into the café was very steep. There was no fixed ramp into the shop where the tickets were bought, having to call for assistance from outside is unacceptable. We were told on several occasions that money was very tight but trying to pay was problematic and we left in the end without paying because we hadn't seen anything.-
