Overview

Spacious wheelchair accessible café within Debenhams shop.

Transport & Parking

5

There is a Debenhams car park, however it is very tight to drive around in and I think most wheelchair accessible vehicles would struggle. I usually park the the Overgate car park as it is nearby and means you don’t have to go outside, there are plenty of disabled spaces and lifts to access all levels. There is also council on street parking and council car parks nearby. Shop Mobility also have 4 parking spaces just outside at the back of the Overgate. You can only park here during the week if you are using there equipment however, at the weekend anyone with a blue badge can park here. With the Overgate shopping centre being in the center of Dundee there are numerous bus stops close by which have buses that go all over Dundee and Angus. There are also a couple of taxi ranks and the train station is roughly a 15 minute walk away.

Access

5

There is level access into the Debenhams café and it is very spacious where you pick up and order your food. All counters are at eye level so wheelchair users shouldn’t struggle to see what’s on offer. There is a little less space between the tables however, they can be easily moved to make space. One area of seating is up a couple of stairs but there is plenty of tables within the level access area. Tables are at a perfect height for wheelchair users. You have to get a lift up to the level in Debenhams that the café is on, signage from lift to café isn’t very clear. If you wander around the shop though the café is very noticeable.

Toilets

3.5

There is a disabled toilet right beside where the café is which you need a RADAR key to get access to it. However, on the door it does not say where you collect the key from. Therefore if you don’t carry your own you would have to go around the shop to find it. There is also no changing place toilet in Debenhams or anywhere nearby.

Staff

The staff in the Debenhams café and shop are all very friendly and helpful. Never had a problem anytime I’ve visited.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

Definitely a great café to visit within the Overgate shopping centre and is perfect because you don’t have to go outside at all. Baby food facilities also available.
