Headstone Manor & Museum

Pinner View, Harrow, HA2 6PX, United Kingdom | 02088636720 | Website

Venue Description

Travel back in time through Harrow’s history and discover the amazing stories of it’s people, from the Harrow we know today to its earliest prehistory. Meeting Roman Potters, Medieval Archbishops and Victorian Commuters as well as lots of different Farmers along the way! After several years of HLF restoration work you can now explore the Small Barn; discovering what Harrow was like before the Headstone Manor we know today was built in 1310. Your journey in to Harrow’s history continues in the Manor House. The Grade 1* listed Manor House now tells the many tales of the people who once lived there, as well as the history of the whole Harrow area. As you travel through the house, from the most recently built parts to the oldest, you will travel back in time, ending up in the early medieval house which still stands an astonishing part of Harrow’s early history.

Accessibility

The entrance to Headstone Manor & Museum is through the Small Barn which is sloped and two wide manual doors to get in. Please let staff or the Duty Manager in the Visitor Centre/The Moat Cafe (level building to the left of the Small Barn) know if you require any assistance opening the doors. There are five buildings on the Headstone Manor & Museum site. The Great Barn, Small Barn and Visitor Centre/The Moat Cafe are all wheelchair accessible. As well as the ground floors of the Manor House and Granary. The Manor House is a Grade 1 listed historic building. It has several rooms with a small step up in the door way as well as some low thresholds and uneven floors in places. The Manor House contains a platform lift to take visitors up to the first floor but the doorway leading out of the lift room is only 70cm wide. There is a small step into one room upstairs, and there are two rooms which can only be accessed via a staircase with a rope handrail. Images of all the rooms and all the Museum displays on the first floor can be viewed on a handheld tablet available from the first room in the Manor House. The handheld tablets also enable you to listen to the main museum displays being read aloud. Guide dogs are admitted in all buildings. There is a dog water bowl outside the Visitor Centre/The Moat Café and we are in Headstone Manor Park which has plenty of green space for dogs to use. Our staff and volunteer wardens will be happy to assist visitors where possible. FREE! Open Tuesday-Sunday 10am-4pm
