Venue Description

Jenn's Gym is a registered charity for people with neurological conditions and disabilities who want to improve their health and well-being in an environment specifically designed with their individual needs at its core. It is fully wheelchair accessible, has specialised and adapted equipment including a sit down cross trainer, arm and leg bikes and a standing frame. It also has a technology room featuring the latest advancements in rehabilitation.

Accessibility

Access is through automatic sliding doors to the building and a set of double doors to the gym which are pushed to enter and pulled to leave. The floor is level throughout.

Awards List

The Health Minister, Mike Nesbitt MLA paid a visit to the gym along with the Lord Mayor on 4 February 2025 to see and hear about the work I am doing to provide suitably equipped gym facilities for people with disabilities. The Minister was very supportive of this initiative and welcomed the fact that this is the first gym of its kind in Northern Ireland, providing those with disabilities a space to come and exercise, meet other like-minded people and make friends. The Minister has given me permission to use his support when contacting others. Health professionals who attended the opening on 17 January 2025, included representatives from Northern Ireland Chest, Heart and Stroke, the Mae Murray Foundation, Disability Sport NI, and Occupational Therapists NI, all of whom were incredibly encouraging.

Toilets

There is an accessible toilet within the gym, on the same level, with a 1m wide door. There is a grab rail on the right hand side of the toilet, the lock is easy turn and the taps are lever style.

Staff

Staff are present during main opening hours and most, but not all, have had familiarity training with RNIB. The Director of the gym is usually also present and is a full time wheelchair user.

Jenn's Gym is situated in a rural area. While having no direct dog exercise facilities it would be possible for a dog to be exercised convenient to the gym.
