Overview

Le Caprice is an upmarket restaurant serving delicious modern British food. It has a good value set menu on offer between 2pm - 6.30pm and after 9.30pm, with 2 courses for £21 or 3 course for £26. We went for the set menu and loved our food. I loved many things about the restaurant but was disappointed that there was no accessible toilet.

Transport & Parking

Le Caprice is tucked away in a cul de sac in St James's. However it is very easy to get to. The nearest tube station is Green Park which has step free access. Also there are lots of buses that stop close by. From Green Park tube take the lift or stairs to the Piccadilly Southside exit. This is the side of the street where Green Park and the Ritz are. Head to the Ritz and continue along till you come to Arlington Street, with the Ritz on it's corner, and turn right. The restaurant is further down on the right hand side of the road. There's are a couple of kerbs to navigate, which are not all drop kerbs.

Access

There is a step free entrance into Le Caprice but it is through a revolving door. To the left of it is a regular door, which is where customers exit by. On entering there is a cloakroom area and bar and then free standing tables and chairs. There is also some outdoor seating too. We had a nice table by the window and my crutch sat perfectly on the window ledge.

Toilets

There is no accessible toilet. The ladies and gents toilets are accessed by stairs with a handrail on both sides, see photo. There are about 20 steps down to the toilet area. The washroom area is spacious, see photos. However the toilet cubicles are very small and didn't have a grab rail. While I was there I badly needed the toilet, so I went down the stairs to see if I could improvise but it was not do-able. I was very fatigued by the time I came back up the stairs, and although we were about to leave we had to stay a few minutes extra just so I could have a rest. Rather than look for an accessible toilet I took the tube straight home, rather than looking for an accessible public toilet. This as a disappointing end to another wise excellent visit.

Staff

Staff were lovely and welcoming. My friend had arrived slightly earlier the same day and reserved us a table. We were welcomed when we arrived and the cloakroom attendant took our coats. We were lead through the bar area into the main dining room and had a lovely table by the window. The waiter took my crutch and put it on the window ledge. Service was excellent throughout, they were friendly and attentive.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

The food was absolutely delicious and so nicely presented. Although we had the set menu there was good choice, including veggie options, and portions were generous. The food was beautifully presented. I had for starter Beetroot salad with roasted carrot hummus & mixed seed granola, followed by Cauliflower curry, Pilaf rice & toasted almonds and for dessert I had Vanilla cheesecake with blood orange, which was divine, so rich and creamy. The ambiance and décor of the place is so lovely. We went on a Friday afternoon and it was very busy. It's a really nice place to go for a special treat. Sadly access was let down by the lack of accessible toilet and the revolving door. We visited as it has an Agatha Christie connect she dedicated her 1963 novel The Clocks "to my old friend Mario with happy memories of the delicious food at the Caprice". We didn't see Mario but we had happy memories and delicious food.
