Overview

Great venue. Lots of space. Good food. Good view. Easy accessibility.

Transport & Parking

4

There is a car park at the back of the restaurant that is free and is accessed via Newhaven Place. They lose one mark as there is some cobbles which are a bit uneven to get to the ramp.

Access

There is a ramp at the side of the building which you would use if you were approaching from the main road along the coast (A901). It is wide with a gentle gradient as is the ramp from the car park at the back. There is a nice wide boardwalk in front of the restaurant although there is one small step through the entrance doors of the restaurant which is why they lose 1 mark.

Toilets

toilets were of a good size and clean.

Staff

I am not sure if they were busier than they were expecting for the lunch service when we visited but the staff were a bit harried and the food was very slow to appear from the kitchen. This is in my experience unusual but it may be that due to having young children in tow we eat usually eat an earlier lunch. On the day we visited we arrived later than usual and had to wait 10 minutes to get a table.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

I have to admit I have a soft spot for Loch Fyne in Edinburgh. The only other one I have been to is at Loch Fyne and it was great too. On the lunch time we visited there were 2 separate parties with wheel chairs but the cavernous interior meant that space was never an issue. The food here is great. I love the fish and chips and their home-made tartar sauce is a treat. The kids menu is excellent as is the provision of distracting colouring sheets and crayons. My wife’s favourite are the baked oysters; she claims not to have had better anywhere (truly high praise from an American). The atmosphere was one of lots of people enjoying good food, company and the view – which stretches as far as the Forth Bridges although the cute little Newhaven harbour right on the restaurant’s doorstep provides a suitably fishy backdrop.
