Overview

Meadowsweet in Drimvore is in a lovely situation with beautiful views all round. There is almost no self catering accommodation with such a high level of adaptation in that part of the Scotland so it's great that this is available.

Transport & Parking

As the house is in the country, about 6 miles from Lochgilphead, it's probably best to drive. There is a big driveway with parking for several cars. Though most if it is gravel, there is plenty of space to park so that the passenger door or the tailgate (to unload a wheelchair) is next to the paved area at the foot of the ramp.

Access

There is a shallow metal ramp to the front door with a good sized level platform at the top. Inside the house is spacious, with wide doorways. The kitchen is very large and there is plenty of room in the separate dining room to put a wheelchair at the end of the table. There is a conservatory which is down two steps but the owner has supplied a portable ramp to access this. There is a riser recliner chair, something which is essential for my relative but which is rarely provided in adapted accomodation. The mattresses on both the double bed and the electric bed were very comfortable. The house was exceptionally clean. The garden is very large, mostly grassed but with a lovely patio at the front. Wheelchair users can access this via the paved path from the front door, rather than from the conservatory. There is also a level space at the top of the ramp where a wheelchair user could sit.

Toilets

The bathroom is spacious. The toilet has drop down rails on both sides. The wash hand basin is lowered and a shower chair/commode is provided for the wet room, as well as a freestanding stool. There is a second toilet and shower room for more able visitors.

Staff

The owner was very helpful in providing extra information I asked for. She has also left suggestions in the house about local accessible places. By contacting her directly we were able to book a short break off season at a very reasonable rate.

The house can be be rented through disabledholidays.com but the owner's own website www.meadowsweetbungalow.co.uk gives a lot of information about the bungalow, as well as helpful photographs. It's useful to see which dates are available at a glance, rather than having to contact the travel company. The house is very comfortable. It looks over Dunadd Hill Fort and is close to the Crinan Canal. Locally there are RADAR toilets in Lochgilphead, Ardrishaig, Tarbert and Inveraray.
