Nuthatch Retreat is a design-led eco hideaway nestled in the Forest of Dean, offering a tranquil, luxurious escape for couples and small families. This cedar-clad, single-storey retreat boasts expansive valley views, a deep-soak outdoor bathtub (not accessible), and seamless indoor-outdoor living. Its mid-century interiors, lush indoor plants and home cinema create a space that feels both homely and indulgent. Guests are welcomed with a hamper of locally sourced delights, and the fully equipped kitchen caters to foodies and coffee enthusiasts alike. Nuthatch also aims to be allergen free, we have a no-pets rule and different bedding options are available.Accessibility
With wheelchair-accessible step-free design and options of shower chair, toilet frame, bed grab handle etc. we can accommodate a number of mobility requirements. We don't, however, have a hoist, profiling bed or accessible kitchen. There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance. The ramp is over 150cm wide with no handrails. There is a single manual door at this entrance and the door opens away from you. The width of this opening is 80cm. There is step-free level access as you enter. There is an alternative entrance / exit to the property via the side path. This route has uneven surfaces, paving and a manual gate. There is step-free level access to the bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen/living area. The master bedroom's door is 77cms wide. The bathroom door is 78cms wide. In the bathroom there is room to manoeuvre a wheelchair (150cm x 150cm). There is no door into the open-plan kitchen / living area - the width of the opening is 109cms. There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm) In the living area the manual patio doors open 250cm wide and there is step-free access to a large patio area where there is room to manoeuvre a wheelchair (290cm x 400cm). The garden beyond the patio area is on many levels with uneven ground and steps.

Toilets
The large bathroom / toilet has step-free level access. The bathroom door opens inwards and the door opening is 78cm. There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm). A frame can be fitted to the toilet to offer grab handles either side. There is not a lateral transfer space next to the toilet. There is a wall mounted toilet roll holder, a wash basin, a soap dispenser and a hand towel available. The wash basin has a lever mixer tap.
Staff
The accommodation is self-catering so there are no staff on-call. However, the owners can respond to requests and offer specific information. Nemia has experience working as a PA to a wheelchair user and, co-owner Rod Maclachlan has experience working with and for members of the deaf community, although he does not know BSL. Rod's own mother is a wheelchair user who has transferred using a hoist and also with a standing aid.
