Overview

I had a very positive experience using this station. It was very accessible and the staff were amazingly helpful. I used this station twice, for arrival and departure and this review combines both experiences.

Transport & Parking

Adjacent to station is a concourse with bus stops and taxi rank. I took a taxi from the station and on my return journey I arrived at the station by bus which went directly into the concourse.

Access

There are two ramps leading up to the station entrance. Once inside it is step free in the concourse. There is an information desk which I went to, to access my special assistance for my return trip. There is plenty of seating in the concourse. There are lifts to the platforms.

Toilets

I used the accessible toilet by the concourse. It opens with a radar key. It was spacious and clean. On the wall next to the door is RoomMate a device which offers blind and visually impaired people audio description in the accessible toilet, and this was activated when I walked into the room. There were grab rails and an emergency cord.

Staff

Staff were wonderful. When I arrived I was met by 2 members of staff. One had a wheelchair for me and the other carried my suitcase. They came into my carriage and took my suitcase. They were friendly and welcoming. There was a lot of people getting off the train so we had to wait a while to board the lifts, but they were cheerful and attentive, at no time did I feel rushed. they took me to the taxi rank. On my return journey I arrived at the station and made myself known at the information desk. I was told they were expecting me and to take a seat as the lady who would see me on the train would be along shortly. This time my train departed from the platform adjacent to the concourse so I didn't need a wheelchair. the train was very busy, the next day was going to be a rail strike and I think I lot of people had planned their trip round this so it was quite crowded. The SA staff took me down to first class and told me that if the ticket inspector came along to inform they that I had been seated there by a member of staff. She said she would inform Paddington Station where I was so that they could meet me off the train, which they did.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

I would like to say a huge thank you to the staff at Oxford Railway Station, for making my journey so pleasant and stress free by meeting me off the train and the support they provided while I was at the station on both occasions.
