A grand country house set in the scenic surroundings of Pollok Country Park and in easy reach of Glasgow City Centre. Pollok House was home to the Maxwell family and gives a real taste of upstairs/downstairs life in the 1930s. Above stairs, the lavish family rooms are packed full of period furniture and furnishings. Below stairs the vast servants’ quarters show the realities of running a country house. Some of the servants’ rooms are now the shop selling books, gifts and food, while the original kitchen is now home to the Edwardian Kitchen. The below stairs area is free to visit all year round.
Parking: Blue badge parking is available in the car park at the front of Pollok House. Additional parking is available in the lower courtyard on the West side of the house. Should both car parks be full there is extra parking in The Riverside Car Park further on west of the House. The accessible entrance in located in the lower courtyard (down the slope to the right if facing the main entrance). There are 3 parking spaces close to our accessible entrance. This entrance is not normally staffed, please call 0141 616 6410 to inform staff you are waiting to gain entry. Please note there are cobbles and a short slope leading from the main car park to the accessible entrance. Inside the house there is an accessible toilet by the accessible entrance. From the accessible entrance in the servant’s quarters you can freely visit the Edwardian Kitchen café, the china closet and the dry goods store. There is a platform lift for you to enjoy shopping in the gift shop. Just to make you aware the safe working load is one person in a wheelchair at a combined weight of 150kg (330lbs). This is generally not suitable for motorised chairs. From this level there is a lift to take you to the main floor of the upper house. Unfortunately the first floor of the main house is not wheelchair accessible. Gift Shop: Fully accessible. Edwardian Kitchen Café: Fully accessible Parts of the grounds: Accessible. The accessible toilet is located next to the accessible entrance. The toilet is completely flat level. There are grab rails and the taps are easy to turn. There is also a pull chord alarm.
