Venue Description

The Powell-Cotton Museum offers an exciting, fun and interactive day out for all. ​There are incredible natural history displays, featuring animals from the African and Asian continents in world-famous dioramas. There are also fascinating displays of world-culture objects as well as local archaeology. Ticket price includes a tour of the Grade II listed Quex House (House open for guided tours only; times announced on the day), formerly home to the Powell-Cotton family. The interior of the house is uniquely decorated with ornamental furniture, art and a beautiful library. The Gardens are set in seven acres and feature sweeping lawns, herbaceous borders, exotic trees, a woodland walk, and a historic walled kitchen garden. Visitors are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy in the gardens. The Gift Shop stocks delicious ice cream and cold drinks. The family-run Felicity's Café, located at the front of the museum, offers delicious breakfasts, afternoon tea and lunch. All their cakes are freshly baked on-site. Indoor and outdoor seating is available, but pre-booking is advised.

Toilets

There is a public toilet for disabled visitors. From the main entrance to the public toilet, there is level access. The route is 1320mm wide, or more. The toilet door is 970mm wide. The direction of transfer onto the toilet is to the right. There is 320mm at the side of the toilet. There is 1450mm in front of the toilet. The toilet seat is 550mm high. The toilets have handrails. We have one unisex accessible toilet for the use of visitors. The toilet complies with regulations for accessible toilets and there is more than the specified clear floor space of 1200mm x 1200mm. The door slides open with a width of 97cm/38”. The spaces to either side the WC are 70cm/27” to the left and 32cm/12” to the right. The transfer to the toilet is now an angled transfer to the right. The hot water is controlled at point of delivery. It also contains a baby changing facility.
