Venue Description

Quinta Velha is a 200 year old, restored Portuguese Farmhouse in the Algarve set in the country about 10 minutes drive from Portimao and beaches in Alvor, Praia da Rocha offering holiday accommodation in the country close to towns and beaches. Quinta Velha meaning "old farm" in Portuguese

Accessibility

One of the 4 Farmhouse apartments (Girassol) has been specially adapted for visitors with mobility limitations, with wheelchair access from the off-road parking area via a tiled pathway into Girassol. All accommodation is on one level without any steps or thresholds with 95cm wide doorways, a wet floor shower room (special shower wheelchair available) wall support bars, toilet seat extension, bed blocks. Special equipment , if required, like bed or pool hoist, can be hired locally upon request at cost - cars with hand controls are available for hire from Faro airport.

Toilets

The toilet in Girassol is part of a wet room shower, has support bars on either side of the toilet, one lever type and is accessible for standard as well as power assisted wheelchairs. the cold &hot water taps can be accessed easily whilst seated in a wheelchair over an elevated washbasin, but are not specially adapted - small lever type taps. There are no steps or thresholds within Girassol, rustic tiled floors.

Staff

Co owner Yvonne Palmer - UK Nursery Nurse qualification, spent a large part of her career in special education dealing with severe handicapped children, mostly wheelchair bound. Girassol layout was designed based on Yvonne's experience & know-how.
